## What Global Safety Map is

Independent AI models read world news continuously. Each event is scored across ten weighted threat categories — military, crime, political, nuclear, economy, internet freedom, disaster, sanctions, health, ecology — and a country's safety index is 100 minus its accumulated threat pressure, so higher is safer. Threat pressure decays continuously, so an index reflects the last days of reporting, not an all-time record. Active combat is gated separately: it is marked only when two independent models confirm military action from separate reports within 24 hours.

It is not a government travel advisory, not a casualty count, and not a measure of territorial control.

## Key numbers

- 233 countries and territories scored
- 3 countries flagged with confirmed active combat as of 2026-09-01T03:06:02Z

- Weights: military conflict 30, crime 15, political stability 15, nuclear risk 12, economy 8, internet freedom 7, natural disasters 5, sanctions 4, health 3, ecology 1
- Decay: 0.2% of a category's elevation every 5 minutes
- Score history from 2026-07-16

## Limitations

The index reflects what is being reported. A country with little international news coverage can score higher than local conditions justify, and a single widely-covered incident can move a score more than its real-world weight deserves. Absence of an active-combat marker means no confirmed report in the last 24 hours, not the end of a war. Scores change during the day: any figure quoted without its timestamp will be wrong within hours.
